HILTON WAIKOLOA VILLAGE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM: Heywood Engineering recently provided a number
of systems for the updated resort-wide transportation system at the Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Systems designed and provided by us include on-board CCTV and audio for three new trams, automatic speed control and station
stopping for the new trams, new fault-tolerant controls for the wayside track switches and crossing warnings, and a complete
new transportation tracking system for the trams and boats that displays tram/boat locations in real-time on LCD displays
located throughout the property. The new systems were fully designed by Heywood Engineering and all system fabrication was
done at our facility.
BRONX ZOO MONORAIL: Heywood Engineering recently provided a complete new drive and control system
for the six monorail trains installed at the Bronx Zoo in New York. This system includes multiple vector drives and
motors on each train, PLC based control and DeviceNet data communication. The new system was fully designed by Heywood
Engineering and all drive/control panel fabrication was done at our shop in Reno, NV.
GREAT AMERICA SKYTOWER: Heywood Engineering recently provided a complete new drive and control
system for the Skytower Ride at Great America Theme Park in California. This ride is a rotating observation tower featuring
dual DC Motors for elevator control as well as AC motors for passenger cabin rotation. The ride features redundant PLC's
and touch HMI for operator control and monitoring.
BELLAGIO - MONTE CARLO AUTOMATED PEOPLE MOVER: This recently completed project involved the complete
re-design of the electrical control, communication and propulsion systems on the Automated People Mover connecting the Bellagio
and Monte Carlo hotels in Las Vegas, NV. Heywood Engineering provided all of the engineering, materials procurement,
panel/system fabrication, on-site installation, start-up and testing. The control system was designed and built using
the "Checked Redundancy" principle for high level security, safety and reliability. The system includes multiple fiber-optic
and wireless communication networks covering data, audio and video. The fully automated system includes distributed
power control, distributed propulsion drives, automated door control, automated messaging, emergency communication, and emergency
recovery systems.
CLARION HEALTH PEOPLE MOVER: Heywood Engineering provided various engineering services on
the fully automated people mover connecting the Methodist and IU Riley Hospitals in Indianapolis, IN. This system is
the largest privately built and privately controlled people mover running over a public right-of-way in the US. Heywood
Engineering's involvement in this project included:
- Acting as a third-party consultant to the general contractor regarding the control system. This included generating
the control system specification, assisting in vendor selection, reviewing all vendor submittals and assisting with overall
system testing and commissioning.
- Providing complete propulsion power distribution design. This included a 4160V feed to multiple power drops along
the guideway, emergency back-up generator, and 480V 3-phase distribution to the trains via power rails.
- Providing complete train power distribution design and equipment. Heywood Engineering designed all of the on-board
480VAC, 120VAC and 24VDC power distribution. We also fabricated all of the on-board power distribution panels.
- Providing complete wayside and on-board Audio/Visual system design and equipment. This includes emergency communication
between the train and control room, on-board paging, on-board automated audio/video messaging, station emergency communication,
station paging and automated station audio/visual messaging. Heywood Engineering designed the system, fabricated all
of the equipment/panels in our shop, installed the system and provided full start-up and testing.
DETACHABLE SKI-LIFT DRIVE/CONTROL REPLACEMENT: Heywood Engineering provided the complete
design and system fabrication for a new control and drive system on the Siberia Chairlift at Squaw Valley ski area in California.
This included a new 600HP DC Regenerative Drive system, PLC based redundant control system, slaved AC Vector drive and multiple
operator interface touchscreens.
