About Us

Our History and Structure

Heywood Engineering, Inc. was founded in May of 1993 and has been in continual operation since that time. We are organized as a privately held Nevada Corporation.

Our President

Heywood Engineering, Inc. was founded by Lance Heywood, P.E., CAP. Lance was born and raised in San Jose, California and attended high school at Bellarmine College Prep. Lance then moved on to Santa Clara University where he received his Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering.

Lance went to work for Rosendin Electric, Inc. in 1982 and spent time designing power, lighting and communication systems for large commercial and industrial facilities. From there, Lance worked for nine years as the chief electrical engineer and electrical department manager for a large ropeway transportation company before starting Heywood Engineering in 1993.

Since 1984 Lance has specialized in the control, automation, power, propulsion and communication needs of the Transportation, Transit, Recreation, Amusement, and Entertainment industries.

Lance is a member of IEEE and ISA.

Lance and his wife, Jennifer, live in southwest Reno with their two teenage sons. In winter, Lance enjoys making turns at the many wonderful snow sport resorts in the region. Summer will find him spending as much time as possible in his boat amidst the blue waters of Tahoe.

Lance is active in his local church, Reno Vineyard, and his Christian Faith is central to his life.

Heywood Engineering, Inc. is a UL508 panel shop as listed by Underwriters Laboratories under file number E242542. Any panels fabricated in our facility can have a UL or Canadian UL label applied. View our UL File here.

PE Registration

We are currently licensed as Professional Engineers (PE) in the following states:

Hawaii

Idaho

Indiana

Nevada

New York

Oregon

Utah

Wyoming

We can easily obtain registration in additional states as may be required.

Certified Automation Professional

We are a Certified Automation Professional as recognized by the International Society of Automation (ISA).

Our Facility

Our engineering and manufacturing facility is located in southwest Reno. Our engineering offices include the latest in computer hardware and software including CAD and Schematic Generation software and full-size plotters. We maintain programming software for all of the major PLC manufacturers.

Our panel shop includes a high bay ceiling and overhead hoist to allow for panel fabrication projects of any size. Three-phase power at our shop allows for power-up testing of all systems.
