COMPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS:  Design, manufacture, installation, test, start-up and service of complex safety, control and automation systems.  This includes PC based, PLC based and relay based systems.  We specialize in "safety critical" and "fault-tolerant" systems for use in transportation and other areas where humans are in direct interaction with the controlled system or equipment.   

TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS:  Heywood Engineering, Inc. is a leader in the development of control, power, communication and drive systems for transportation and transit systems.  This includes train control, voice communication (PA, automated messaging, emergency communication), power distribution (on-board, wayside, substations, power rails), CCTV (on-board and wayside), track controls, crossing warnings, audio/visual messaging, and central control monitoring.  We work with automated people movers, monorails, self-propelled systems, and rope propelled systems. 

AERIAL TRAMWAYS:  We provide complete engineering, design, integration, and fabrication of control and drive systems for aerial tramways including detachable grip chairlifts, gondolas, fixed-grip chairlifts, reversible tramways, and pulse systems.  These systems incorporate fully regenerative DC SCR drives and AC Vector Drives to 600+ HP. 

AMUSEMENT ATTRACTIONS:  We have provided engineering, programming, review, and fabrication of control and drive systems for amusement rides and attractions including roller-coasters, observation towers, flat rides and sky rides. 

VARIABLE SPEED MOTOR CONTROL AND MULTI-MOTOR SYSTEMS:  Design, program and integrate DC SCR Drives, AC Vector Drives, Multi-motor and Master/Slave systems.  Closed loop and open loop systems.  Controller integration.   

INDUSTRIAL DATA NETWORKS:  Heywood Engineering can design, implement and service all of the major industrial data communication networks (optical fiber and copper) including Ethernet, DeviceNet, InterBus, ModBus, RS232/RS485, LonWorks, DMX and others. We also implement wide area wireless systems with WLAN controllers and roaming clients.   

AUDIO SYSTEMS / VOICE COMMUNICATION:  Distributed audio systems including live PA, automated messaging, two-way (telephone/intercom) and emergency notification using traditional analog distribution and fully IP (VOIP) based systems. 

DIGITAL SIGNAGE / DISPLAY SYSTEMS:  Design and programming of simple to complex digital signage systems and digital information displays. This can be a simple single display system with direct user input or a large multi-display system with networked units and real-time information.  Given our vast experience working in the mountain resort environment, we are excited about providing digital signage solutions to snow sport resorts.  Refer to our Resort View page for more information.   

CCTV SYSTEMS:  Design of simple to complex CCTV systems using traditional analog equipment or fully IP based systems. On-site digital recording and off-site monitoring.   

ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS:  Control, automation, motion and multi-media systems for use in live and animated entertainment venues.  This includes lighting, audio, video, motion, water features, and effects.  We provide complete integrated  solutions.

FIRE ALARM & EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS:  Complete system design for building fire alarm systems compliant with NFPA 72. Building and/or campus wide communication systems and "Mass Notification" systems.   

UL508 CONSULTING & FABRICATION:  Our in-house panel shop is UL508 listed. We provide contract manufacturing of your panels for projects where a UL Listed panel is required. We can take your design and provide consulting and/or redesign to make your system UL508 compliant.   

ENGINEERING REVIEW AND THIRD-PARTY CERTIFICATION:  Heywood Engineering, Inc. provides complete design review and certification of electrical control, automation, power, communication, and drive systems.  Our President is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of California, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming.

SNOWMAKING SYSTEMS:  Heywood Engineering, Inc. provides power, control and infrastructure design  and programming for automated and manual control snowmaking systems.  This includes traditional Air/Water systems as well as Fan Gun systems.  We have worked on systems at numerous ski areas including Squaw Valley, Northstar-At-Tahoe, Diamond Peak and Mount Rose. 

MATERIALS HANDLING CONVEYORS:  System design and fabrication of the electrical control for materials handling conveyors.  Includes motor control (MCC), sorting, diverters, Emergency Stop, and HMI. 

STAND ALONE SKI LIFT UPGRADE PRODUCTS:  Heywood Engineering designs and fabricates a number of “stand-alone” upgrade products for both fixed grip and detachable chairlifts.  Refer to our Resort Technologies page for more information.
